Exclusive interview with Zoe Fish about Little House on the Prairie

Hi Zoe, I am very happy to do this interview. 
 

Could you introduce yourself to the visitors of cinema-movietheater.com? 
 Hi readers! 

I’m Zoe Fish, a 14 year old actress from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I’ve been acting since I was 5 and have appeared in a variety of projects such as The Grudge(2020), Percy, and The Christmas Club.

What do you like when you read the script? 
When I first read the script I thought that it was extremely unique and unlike anything that I had seen or done before.
I liked how the writers took the concept of the books and show and shifted the point of view to focus more on the indigenous peoples and how they were affected in that time period.

And what did you think when you discovered your character Self - Edith James, Edith (S1 . E5 & E8) ? 
When I booked the role as Edith I wanted to make sure that I understood her as a person and made sure she had a little bit of contrast to Romanzy.
I saw Edith as a follower who goes along with her sister’s bullying even though underneath she’s a little bit softer.
Her goal is to impress and be liked by the people around her which would most of the time be her sister. 

Can you tell us how you got your role? 
The first audition I did for Little House was for Mary Ingalls and although I didn’t book that role a few months later I was called back to audition for Romanzy James. After sending in my tape I was sent the offer for Edith James, Romanzy’s twin sister.  

 
How did you prepare for your role? 
To prepare for a role I usually just read the script and try to envision myself as the character in those certain situations.
I try to develop the silent emotional cues and subtle shifts and beats that all morph the character into a real human being on screen. I also can’t forget to mention the costumes.
Those beautiful dresses made me feel like a literal princess and brought be back to that time period and the status of my character. 

 
Have you had the chance to watch the 1974 series or read Laura Ingalls Wilder's books? 
Before taking on my character I did watch a few of the old episodes of the show just to understand the mood of the story.
I did not end up reading the books but I didn’t want to know too much going in because it’s a brand new show with new meaning and new people. 

How was the shooting with Luke Bracey, Crosby Fitzgerald, Alice Halsey...... and directors Kat Candler  and Sydney Freeland ?

From the moment I walked on set everyone was so welcoming and warm.
I found that even though I wasn’t on set everyday I still felt like I was able to form bonds and friendships with the people around me.
Being around so many other kids on set was also a new experience for me that brought so many fun times and laughs.  

 
Do you watch yourself, during the TV broadcast? 
When I was younger I chose not to watch myself on screen because I would get embarrassed or get cringed out but I’ve found that as I’ve gotten older and started focusing more seriously on acting I’ve started to care about my performance a lot more because I want to continue to act for the rest of my life and continue to refine my skills and better myself.

When and why did you choose to become an actress? 

When I was five my oldest brother, Maclean Fish, who plays Adam Scott in the show really wanted to get into acting.
One of his friend’s mom worked in the industry and told my mom about a local open casting call and he ended up booking a stand in job.
My mom ended up going to meet with a local talent agency who were interested in Maclean and I had to tag along because I was only five.
As I was sitting on my mom’s lap the agent asked me if I was interested in auditioning for a project and of course I said yes.
How could a five year old turn down the opportunity to be in a real life movie.
I auditioned for the show and I didn’t get the role but then I auditioned for a movie and I booked it.
From that point on I’ve been in love with acting and I could not imagine what my life would be like without all of the amazing experiences I’ve had. 

What is your next challenge / project? 
As of right now I don’t have any film projects coming up but I’m okay with that because it gives me time to do all of the things I love outside of acting.
My goals for this year are to explore the theatre world more and continue to explore my love for performing outside of film.
I do however have a role in the soon to be released film November 1963 that is slated to be released this fall.
