Exclusive interview with Narayan David Hecter, French actor

Hi Narayan, I'm glad to do this interview

- Can you introduce yourself to the visitors of cinema-movietheater.com?

Hi, my name is Narayan and I’ve recently played a character called Joseph in Paramount Plus’ series  ‘No Escape’.

I was born in Paris and grew up mainly on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean, before moving to Lausanne in Switzerland and then on to London to study acting.

- What could you tell us about your character Joseph?

Joseph is a crew member on a mysterious boat called ‘The Blue’.

We don’t know too much about his back story really, but we can sense that he is somehow ‘odd’, an outsider who is not very sociable.

He doesn’t say too much, but he is very perceptive, he gets it! He can’t bare the idea of living with guilt and he has profound spiritual beliefs about karma.

When he finally talks, it involves unpleasant truths that nobody wants to hear.

- How did you get this role?

My agent sent me a self tape audition from our wonderful casting director, Gary Davy. I had the opportunity at this stage to read the first episode which

I absolutely loved - I really wanted to know what would happen to everyone.

I auditioned and thought I hadn’t got it,  that I messed up and missed the opportunity!

You can’t imagine how happy I was when I heard the news that they gave me the role.

- How did you prepare for your role?

Before shooting No Escape, we spent a month with my fellow actors and our director Hans Herbot, rehearsing, developing the relationships etc.

We also learned how to sail!!

- Were you able to get feedback on your character?

I got constant feedback from the directors while shooting, and since the series has been out, people have been very kind.

- Do you look at yourself during the broadcast, to see your strengths and where you could improve?

Yes definitely! I could re-do all of the scenes in thousands of other ways! I’d definitely work more on my diction next time.  

- How is the shooting with Rhianne Barreto, Abigail Lawrie, Colette Dalal Tchantcho………?

I loved shooting with everyone! Every member of the cast taught me something about acting.

The truth is, I was very well surrounded, very lucky indeed. 

- How long did the shooting for this TV series? and Where is it shot?

It was shot in Thailand for 5-6 months and we were lucky enough to stay for  almost 7 months. Best time ever!

- You are of mixed heritage Vietnamese / Cambodian and French. What does this multiculturalism bring you?

It is difficult to say as it is my reality.

But thinking about it, I do believe it gives you many different cultural and anthropological perspectives.

It encourages you to understand the ‘other’.

I think it is very important and I believe it is the way of the future. I am proud of this mixed background. 

- What is your next challenge / project?

I’m currently shooting my first French action movie ‘Largo Winch - The Price of Money’, starring Tomer Sisley and James Franco.

And hopefully, next year a feature film directed by the Oscar nominated director Timo Von Gunten. Exciting times!
