Hi Frank, I'm glad to do this interview
Can you introduce yourself to the visitors of cinema-movietheater.com?
Hello Cinema movie theater! My name is Frank Huerta and I played Eddie in “Gazer”, the new breakout movie which had its premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
What could you tell us about your character Eddie?
Eddie is a local thug with a street vendor business who gives Frankie
(Ariella Mastroianni) a job helping to sell stolen merchandise and jewelry, which ends up getting him in trouble and forcing him to close down his operation.
What did you like when you read the script of this movie?
As soon as I read the script I knew this would be a phenomenal movie.
It's a nail biting thriller and I love those types of films, where the audience never knows what's coming next.
How did you prepare for your role?
In preparing to play Eddie I first started off by building his backstory, which consisted of imagining what his daily life was like, what circumstances led him to be
where he is in his current life, what kind of legal trouble he has gotten into, based on where he lived, how he speaks etc.
Then I would live in the world of “Gazer” with those circumstances for extended periods of time until I could feel it in my bones.
5. How was it shooting with Marcia DeBonis, Ariella Mastroianni, Emma Pearson........... and the director Ryan J. Sloan?
The entire cast was a pleasure to work with. I’ve known Ariella and Ryan for some time before the film was made.
Ryan is a great director, he has an empathic personality and a very gentle approach to giving his direction which makes the process feel more like a collaboration of choices than anything
else.
6. Where is the movie shot?
The movie was shot over the course of 3 years all around New Jersey. My scenes were mostly shot in Newark, New Jersey.
Frank Huerta will present his new film "Gazer" at the Cannes Film Festival on May 22.
Yes I was present at the “Gazer” debut and I could not have been more excited. It was my first time at Cannes and to have gone as an actor in a film has always been a dream of mine.
How did you feel when you knew Gazer would be at the Cannes Film Festival?
When Ryan first told me the film would be debuting at Cannes I almost couldn't believe it. This is literally every actor's dream and it was really happening.
To be completely honest, I had to take a break and go back to read the message before it sunk in.
Initially I was in complete shock which then turned into overwhelming joy and excitement.
You are Stuntman too. What do you like in the stunts?
I have always been an athlete since high school.
I wrestled, played football, and also ran track.
Crossfit has been an avid passion of mine for almost 7 years now. Being able to use more physicality in my work is a lot of fun for me.
It's like working out and acting mixed into one.
My dream is to be in an action film doing all my own stunts.
I look up to Tom Cruise in that aspect. He is a powerhouse in the action film franchise and pours his blood sweat and tears onto the screen.
9. What is your next challenge / project?
I'm currently producing my first feature film which is a crime drama. This is my first project that I wrote and will be producing myself.
I know many challenges are ahead in doing so but I am ready to take them headstrong and create something powerful and suspenseful for the audience.
