Exclusive interview with Eilidh Loan, Scottish Actress and Writer

By Jean-Paul Eliard

The 04 January 2022

Hi Eilidh, I'm glad to do this interview and happy new year
A happy new year to you and all the best with 2022.

Can you introduce yourself to the visitors of cinema-movietheater.com?

Hello everyone at Cinema – Movietheater.com. My name is Eilidh Loan and thank you for having me answer your questions.

What could you tell us about your character Rhona in A Castle for Christmas?

I play Rhona in ‘A Castle for Christmas’ who is part of the knitting club Sophie Brown (Played by the wonderful Brooke Shields) joins when she comes to visit Scotland.

Rhona is a pastry Chef who works in the local bakery and is a huge fan of the Sophie Brown books so is super excited when she comes to stay. Rhona is super fun and it was a total joy to play a role full of colour and sparkle.

I saw the movie on Netflix France, I like the storyline and  the views of Scotland are gorgeous.

And you what did you interest when you read the script?

Being Scottish I do believe that Scotland is the best place on Earth- it is so beautiful, and I feel very proud to be Scottish.

I loved how colourful and fun the script was. Rhona’s character jumped of the page to me.

I also loved the age ranges of the characters in the knitting club – that felt like home to me. Sitting in the pub and listening to stories from generations above you and learning from them.

I grew up with community around me and it was so magical to read a script where the characters create that.

How was the filming with Brooke Shields, Cary Elwes,  Lee Ross, Andi Osho........... and with the Director Mary Lambert?

It was one of the best experiences ever. To work with such established actors and directors and learn from their years of experience was a true blessing and not one I took for granted.
Every second on set I was learning from every person. I believe it is so important with every job to learn from your fellow actors and crew, especially those who have been in this industry a long time as they come with a vast amount of knowledge that as a younger actor, you can’t learn from Drama Schools or acting classes.
We had so much fun making this movie and I will carry the advice I was given with me forever.

I know it is difficult to predict what the future holds for movies, TV series, etc. for the moment with Covid-19, but what is your next challenge / project?

Covid has been a tough time for all sides of the industry. It has shown just how resilient we are.
We made this movie during a pandemic so at every point we were all very aware of how privilege it was to be working when so many other parts of the industry were not able to get back to full function yet.

I am very excited to be starting 2022 with some new projects. I have a few TV shows due to air this year and I am stepping into the theatre again which I am super excited about.
At the end of January, I begin rehearsals for a play I have written and directed and then I will be stepping back onstage to play a fantastic role in the UK premier of a beautiful play by Uther Dean.

Thank you very much for your interview Eilidh  and I wish you all the best.
