Hi Alanna, I'm very happy to do this interview.
When you read the script, what did you like about the storyline and your role in Killjoys ?
Often, as a female my age, the roles I’m presented with and the roles that I’ve played in the past have usually been tethered to another character.
For example; the character is either daughter of…. girlfriend to…. best friend of… and honestly, it’s a little rare to find a stand alone character.
And you can’t get more stand alone of a character than an evil alien queen
hell bent on destroying the human population so that HER species can exist.
It’s so liberating to get the chance to behave badly. And am in fact
encouraged to.
How was the filming with your co-stars and Series Directed ?
We had 4 directors over the course of the season, each director brought such amazing insight to the show.
For an actor, it’s really interesting to get to work with a variety of directors- every single one of their working styles are different and once you understand their specific kind of energy it’s so
much fun to explore the scenes with them.
Almost all of my scenes were with Rob Stewart… LUCKY ME!
We spent hours upon hours together and I’m so happy to say he’s remained a good friend of mine.
Over the course of the season we were both discovering what The Lady and Khlyen’s relationship was.
I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive and talented actor to discover that with!
Do you perform with your co-stars before ?
Coming into the series, I didn’t know any of the other actors.
Except Kelly McCormack! Her sister, Hilary, is a very close friend of mine… who actually appeared on the show as Kelly’s sister… which was such a trip.
Other than Kelly, I knew no one!
Could you tell us more about your role and the storyline in the next movie The Marijuana Chronicles ?
The Marijuana Chronicles is based on a true story that takes place in Toronto
in 1972.
It’s about Project Venus, an experiment run by the Addiction Research Foundation, that was designed to study the behavioural and physiological effects of heavy marijuana use on young females.
However, there was a hidden agenda and the experiment turned into 98 days
of exploitation.
This was before any laws were put in place to protect subjects within government lead experiments.
I play Joanne, a very keen, yet naive participant of the experiment who is looking to make it through the 98 days, get her money and leave.
I read on your biography (Source : Northernstars.ca)
".........She was 13-years-old, when she landed her first professional acting job in Poland after responding to an audition notice for the film Thr3........"Why did you choose to be an actress
?
Until I booked my first role I didn’t know that I wanted to pursue acting.
I don’t think I really understood that I could actually enjoy a job and make a living off of it.
Once I realized that, it all changed. My family and I moved countries every three years, so I was constantly exposed to a lot of different cultures and always had such an appreciation for other
people’s stories.
I think that’s why I love acting so much, I have a chance to attempt to understand and explore other’s stories.
Thank you very much for your interview Alanna I wish you the best
