Exclusive interview with Tara Alexandra Brown, American Actress and Filmaker

Could you introduce yourself to the visitors of cinema-movietheater.com?
I'm Tara Alexandra Brown, an actress and filmmaker originally from Reno, Nevada. I got my start in theater, but have been working professionally in film since moving to Los Angeles a few years ago.

This year I was thrilled to portray Officer Glover in Season 8 of SWAT on CBS.

What do you like when you read the script?
I was immediately drawn to the fast-paced structure of the script.

Things happen really quickly and the situation evolves from a standard stop to a life-or-death shoot out in one page.

I found the episode very exciting and was eager to be a part of it.

And what did you think when you discovered your character Glover (S08 . E10)?
It was very important to me to make Glover as grounded as possible.

From the dialogue it's very clear that she is a no-nonsense cop, who is good at her job, and very quick to respond to an emergency situation.

But, the original character breakdown was seeking actresses in their 30's to 40's. I was actually a bit young for the role, but I found something interesting in channeling some rookie-cop energy into my performance.

Glover is a well-trained officer, but has probably never been in a shoot-out before.

This gave the character another layer to play with.

Can you tell us how you got your role?
I'd auditioned for SWAT a few times before and had come close to booking other characters, but never crossed the finish line.

When my agent sent me the audition, I realized I didn't really have any cop clothes and I knew it was important for casting to be able to visualize me in the role so I ordered a tactical vest last minute and wore it for the audition tape. Ironically, the sides included a lot of running and shooting and ducking (which is hard to do in an apartment where you have to stay in frame) but I just did my best to visualize my surroundings and play the truth of the scene.

A few days later I got the part.

How did you prepare for your role?
I re-watched several episodes of SWAT beforehand to get a feel for the energy and pacing of the series.

It was a very quick turnaround between booking the role and shooting the episode so there was little prep time. However, I also find the time to really get

a feel for a character in my body - how they stand, how they interact with people, what their instincts would be in an emergency situation.

I felt I understood who Glover was very early on in the process and knew that the key was playing her as truthfully as possible.

I wanted Glover to feel like a real person - capable, but vulnerable to outside forces.

How was the shooting with Shemar Moore..........and the director Michael D. Olmos?
I'll never forget the feeling of walking onto that massive set and into a safety meeting with roughly fifty people.

We were working with firearms so it was important for everyone to feel safe.

It was both exhilarating and nerve wracking to be a part of something so high stakes, but the cast and crew made the whole experience easy.
I've always been a fan of Shemar Moore so getting the chance to work with him was incredible - and intimidating ha!

He made me feel very comfortable on set and it was easy to play off him.

We actually had a brief improvised scene together after the shootout, though this didn't make the final cut.
Michael D. Olmos is one of those directors who knows how to get an idea across quickly and efficiently.

We were shooting with 3 to 4 cameras simultaneously (which is unusual for shows that aren't sitcoms) so the shoot-out sequence played out almost like theater.

Michael would give great notes or suggestions in between takes and then just let us play - it was fantastic!

Do you watch yourself during the TV broadcast?
I was actually in a play rehearsal during the live broadcast, but my mom, dad, and sister all watched it together back in Reno and texted me screenshots

while it was happening.

When I got home they Facetimed me to watch it again, which was a hilarious experience.

I have a hard time watching myself but they made it very enjoyable. My family

is my biggest support system and having them cheer me on every day is extraordinary.

When and why did you choose to become an actress?
I knew very early on that this was the career path for me.

From the moment I played "The Cow" in my preschool's production of

"Are You My Mother" I was hooked.

I'd been in over 30 plays/musicals by the time I was able to make the move to Los Angeles. For me there simply isn't a Plan B.

I've never felt more fulfilled or exhilarated than when I am on set or on stage.

I know this is true for a lot of actors who are more comfortable in the skin of other characters than their own.

Storytelling is the oldest artform we have and there is something truly fantastic about bringing imagination to life - and I have a very active imagination.

What is your next challenge / project?
Currently I am rehearsing for the Pacific Resident Theater's upcoming production of Shakespeare's Henry IV and recently wrapped shooting on a dramatic mini-series called, The Aquanaut and the Shipwreck from

Memory Pill Films.

I am also completing post-production on my short film project, And Yet So Far which will be running the 2026 festival circuit.

Do you have anything else you'd like to add?
Life's too short to let doubt or fear keep you from pursuing a dream, however difficult.

The world needs artists, especially now, and if I could give advice to other dreamers out there I'd tell them to keep going.

In the words of Jim Carrey, "You can fail at what you don't love, so why not do what you love?"

Thank you very much for your interview Tara Alexandra, I wish you the best.
