Hi Paolina, I am very happy to do this interview.
Hi Jean-Paul, I’m happy as well! Thanks for having me.
Could you introduce yourself to the visitors of cinema-movietheater.com?
My name is Paolina van Kleef. I’m an actress from Vancouver, BC.
I’ve been passionate about acting since I was a kid and I love being able to connect with people!
What do you like when you read the script?
It was interesting reading about what Lana’s father was going through in his search for her. It gave the story so much emotional weight.
But my favourite part was following Lana’s own journey, starting out as a teenage girl obsessed with paranormal activities, only to have her world completely turned upside down.
What mattered most to her was realizing how much she needed her dad.
And what did you think when you discovered your character Lana
(S1 Ep9)?
I love that Lana is unapologetically herself.
She’s brave, curious, and doesn’t back down easily.
I was excited to dive into her passions for horror movies and the paranormal world, while also exploring the more vulnerable side of her character.
Can you tell us how you got your role?
I received a self-tape request from my
agents and filmed it with my sister. The casting director’s notes gave me so much creative freedom, and I decided to take full advantage of that.
I made my own “ghost hunting” video in my room as part of the audition.
It was such a fun process, and I think that playful approach helped me really connect with the character.
How did you prepare for your role?
I watched a lot of ghost hunting videos
on YouTube and read up on paranormal activity.
I also had the chance to talk with the director about the tone of Lana’s story, and we discussed films such as Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, and Prisoners.
Those references helped ground the atmosphere we wanted to capture.
How was the shooting with Justin Hartley, Robin Weigert, Abby McEnany, and the director Jon Huertas?
I didn’t have any scenes with Robin
Weigert or Abby McEnany, but working with Justin Hartley was a great experience.
He was super kind and a generous scene partner.
Jon Huertas was a phenomenal director. Since he’s also an actor, his notes resonated with me on a deeper level.
We also had conversations about the importance of Latino representation in the industry, which was inspiring.
Where is this TV series shot?
We filmed some scenes in Coquitlam and
Pitt Meadows, and it was a great experience to work at Riverview Hospital.
The location had such a unique atmosphere which really added to the mood of the story.
Also shoutout to the set decorators for making Lana’s room so cool and featuring artwork from local artists!
Do you watch yourself during the TV broadcast?
I do! For this episode, I had a small
gathering with my closest friends and we turned it into a little watch party.
Sharing it with friends made it special.
When and why did you choose to become an actress? Was it a film, an actress…?
I knew I wanted to be an actress when I was about seven years old.
I grew up as a huge Disney Channel fan and shows like Wizards of Waverly Place and Hannah Montana sparked my imagination and made me want to be part of that world.
What is your next challenge / project?
I was part of a short film titled HE,
which will premiere at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival on October 25th.
I’m really excited to share this project with audiences and to see it come to life on the big screen.
Do you have anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you for having me, I enjoyed
being able to share a bit about my experience!
Thank
you very much for your interview Paolina, I wish you the best.
