Hi Christy, I am very happy to do this interview.

Thank you so much—I’m happy to be here.

Could you introduce yourself to the visitors of cinema-movietheater.com?
I’m Christy St. John, an LA-based actress and filmmaker.
I’m known for playing FBI Agent Kristen Murphy on Will Trent, with additional credits including SEAL Team, Days of Our Lives, CSI: Vegas, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Sex Lives of College Girls, and The Christmas Chronicles
2 starring Kurt Russell. As a filmmaker, I’m especially proud of my YouTube sketch Quirky Kinks and creating the proof of concept for Work-Life Balance,
a pilot I wrote, produced, and starred in.

What do you like when you read a script?
I was already a fan of Will Trent before getting cast, which made the experience hugely surreal. Walking onto sets I’d seen so many times felt magical, like Hogwarts exists and I finally got my letter.

What did you think when you discovered your character, FBI Agent Kristen Murphy (Season 2, Episode 9)?
My favorite part was discovering that I was evil. My character has such a rich arc (something usually reserved for series regulars) and that made her incredibly exciting to play.

Can you tell us how you got the role?
In my audition, I was reading my final scene with the casting associate, a scene I eventually played opposite John Ortiz.
He has a long monologue accusing my character, and it was a tricky audition because I didn’t have many lines while his character had long paragraphs with Spanish sprinkled in.

The reader kept messing it up, so I stopped and said, “I’m going to hold my script, let’s just read it through.” We did, then shot the take, and it went really well. I think taking control of the audition is ultimately what booked me the role. It was very Kristen.

How did you prepare for the role?
I spent a lot of time planning my blocking. Kristen comes in and takes control (she outranks the main characters) so power dynamics were really important to me.

I was honestly nervous because I was such a fan of the show, especially Ramón Rodríguez who plays Will Trent. Walking onto his turf and bossing him around felt strange. To ground myself, I came in with a very clear vision.
I wanted a lot of movement so it felt like Kristen was dominating the space.

My favorite scene is the one in Will’s office where I’m sitting behind his desk.
I wanted it to feel like I was dancing around him in his own space, even though the script just had me sitting. I was nervous they’d hate the changes, but Sheree Folkson, the director, loved it. Now it’s probably my favorite scene I’ve ever done.

How was shooting with Ramón Rodríguez?
Working with Ramón was a masterclass in being number one on the call sheet. He’s a true lead in every sense.

During my final scene, I rolled my ankle after tripping over a prop gun. It hurt, but I didn't want to tell anyone or draw attention to it, figuring I'd just grin and bear it. But Ramón noticed immediately, got me a chair, called the medic, and insisted I stop wearing heels for the night (thank God we'd already shot the wide).

Being the lead of a primetime show is incredibly demanding, but Ramón not only delivers an amazing performance, he’s also a true leader. He’s insightful, hardworking, and fiercely protective of his team. Fans should know he’s perfectly cast.

Where is the series shot?
The show is shot in Atlanta, though I was cast in LA. It was a great experience flying out, staying in a hotel, and exploring the city on my off days.

Do you watch yourself during the TV broadcast?
I watched the episode with friends because I really wanted to celebrate the win, and I’m so glad I did.
We watched together, shared champagne, and I told behind-the-scenes stories afterward. Wins can be rare as an actor, and I’m proud I took the time to celebrate this one.

NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles are also very popular. What was it like filming those shows?
I love procedurals and have been lucky to work on several - NCIS, NCIS: LA, CSI: Vegas, and SEAL Team. The original CSI was one of my favorite shows growing up; I used to watch it with my mom.

One of my favorite memories was on CSI: Vegas, talking with director-producer Brad Tanenbaum about how they create the dead bodies.
Fun fact: dead bodies don’t get goosebumps, so they have to digitally remove them in post.
They even do a “dead body pass” for each episode, watching the full episode just to make sure the bodies actually look dead.

When and why did you choose to become an actress?
I actually tried very hard not to become an actress.
I earned a Mechanical Engineering degree hoping a more stable career would satisfy me, but acting never left my mind.
I eventually weaseled my way into acting classes, studied abroad for acting, and stepped onto a film set for the first time.
I was instantly hooked. From that moment on, I knew I had to dedicate my life to acting.

What is your next challenge or project?
I’m working on something really fun that I can’t talk about yet. But if you’re missing me on screen, you can catch me in a BuzzBallz Nation commercial currently airing.
I’m also writing my own feature - a horror-comedy about an alcoholic vampire who feeds off the blood-alcohol content of her victims.
