Exclusive interview with Mahima Makwana Indian Actress

By Jean-Paul Eliard

The 09 June 2021

Hi Mahima, I'm glad to do this interview and I hope this finds you and yours safe and healthy.

I am wholeheartedly with the Indian people for their difficult times that you are going through with the pandemic

Could you tell us about your character Zoya in Flesh on Eros Now ?
Zoya is a teenage girl who is shown to be abducted in the series which is based on trafficking.

It was a character that made me think if I could portray it or not at some point for the variation it held. The raw & organic vibe of this script offered amazed me as an artist.I truly enjoyed playing this character.

For the moment I saw the first four episodes on Eros Now, it is hard as series and showing us repulsive and depraved people, who are doing repulsive thing, with human. But it is well because Flesh can do open the eyes of each person on human trafficking.

What interested you when you read the script ?
The meaty essence in the storyline enraptured me the most both as an artist & individual. The rustic mood of the series bridged its way to my soul & before

I knew I was already worked on it.Most importantly, the thought of propagating a strong message to the audiences through such a hard-hitting character kept me hooked onto it.

How did you prepare for your role ?
I didn’t have enough time to prep, because I was the last person to come on board.
I tried studying the world, it was the toughest project so far.
Watched documentaries, spoke to people related to that world to get a real insight.
The character did take a toll on me mentally., actors are usually told how to get into the character. But coming out of it was a challenge.
The subject itself opened a lot of doors in my head.
Every role requires an artist to adapt to it one way or the other. The timid side of Zoya & her fear was quite challenging for me to portray as an artist for I am completely different as an individual.I thoroughly enjoyed portraying this character.
The episode of challenges that she faces were tragic and to be able to do justice to her experiences was really tough.

How was the filming with Swara Bhaskar, Rakhi Mansha, Akshay Oberoi, Kavin Dave, Vidya Malvade and the director ?
It was an enthralling experience in itself to work with each of them.

Their sense of wisdom & discipline in terms of work ethic were two of my main takeaways from this project. All in all it was an amazing experience throughout & I look forward to working with them on future endeavours as well.

Did you perform with your co-stars before ?
No, Flesh was my very first project with each of them.

How long did the filming for this show go on?
For about 30-35 days

When there is a girl, woman or child who is kidnapped in India, do the police really behave like in the show or when the policeman sees you with other girls in the truck behind the boxes but doesn't say anything?
On a personal level , I feel that the security of our country is quite stoic & prompt in such a grim situations.

Yes there are instances when things don’t go well & lapses occur but I would like to give it to them for they are humans at the end of the day.

I haven’t faced any situation of the sort for real & hence I wouldn’t be the right person to comment on their method of dealing with the crisis. However, I wish God forbids one & all from crossing paths with a situation of the sort.

And is there policewoman as Radha (Swara Bhaskar) who fights the system to help when there is a kidnapping?
I believe that any situation can work out just fine if one becomes a hero for their own self without breaking the rules. If one keeps faith in the officer looking into a matter then even he/she would emerge as argute as Radha in Flesh.A calm & positive approach is the key to any situation I feel.

I know it is difficult to predict what the future holds for movies, TV series, etc. for the moment with Covid-19, but what is your next challenge / project?
Frankly, I have a couple of interesting projects in my kitty but I wouldn’t be able to divulge into details at the moment.

All I can say is that being consistent whilst being creative in your choice of scripts without compromising on quality is one of the biggest challenges any project offers.

Do you wish to add something ?
I would just like to add that I owe my growth & journey as an artist to everyone who has been a part of it involving my family, wellwishers & team mainly.Lastly,

I would always keep entertaining audiences with a promising performance. In recent scenario, I wish for everyone to stay safe and take care.

Thank you very much for your interview Mahima. Bravo for your amazing  performance in Flesh. I wish you all the best and take care.
