Hi Miya, First, I'm very glad to do this interview.
What did you like about the storyline and your role in The Darkest Minds?
I liked that the story revolves around 4 kids who come together and form a family, even though their world has become a scary place for them.
I also loved that the kids are learning how powerful they are together.
How was the filming?
Filming was amazing. I loved spending time with my cast mates and learning about directing from Jen.
We had a great cast and everyone really loved spending time together.
In The Darkest Minds you don't speak but we understand what you want, for you, she was more difficult to perform without speaking?
It can definitely be more challenging, especially when there are very emotional scenes. But I feel like playing Zu let challenged my acting ability
and let me learn about expressing myself in creative ways.
When and why did you choose to be an actress?
I decided to try acting when I was 8 years old after doing a lot of modeling
When I booked the role of Young Kono in Hawaii five0, and got to film in Hawaii,
I was hooked! I just wanted to keep on acting.
What is it like to be actress at only 11 years old?
I love what I’m doing and feel lucky that I’m able to have these unique experiences like traveling, learning all about producing and directing and I love getting to meet so many great people.
It makes me want to continue acting and hopefully become a director one day!
Whats next for you?
I will be in 2 Netflix feature films releasing in 2019.
The first is an Asian- American RomCom with Ali Wong and Randall Park
called “Always Be My Maybe”.
Then I have a sci fi thriller coming out called “Rim on the World”.
